The Roof is essentially a place to see the entire city. The food and ambiance are 5 stars! No questions about that! They serve foods by categories in separate corners! The best time to be at the Roof is just before sunset. During the holiday season, this place is completely booked - you need to have your spot at least two weeks ago! More than the food, The Roof is actually an experience of SLC! If you are visiting SLC from outside and would like to see the Temple up close - visit the roof!

First time at the roof, I really enjoyed my experience. The view is spectacular, best in the city from any table you are seated at. One that pretty much makes the price and food worth it. The reason this is not 5 star is due to the food quality verse the price. It was about $55 for the buffet. The options for the buffet were pretty good, a lot of good meat options that are cut right off in front of you. There is enough here to keep you entertained and excited. As far as the taste and quality, it was that of a kinda lower end casino. Basic flavors, bland bites, and overcooked floppy vegetables. I was expecting more with the price we paid per person. But with the view and the serenade of the in house music, it is a great option for milestone dinners or to create memories. The service was fantastic! The staff is there to dote on your every need. Every time I got up to get some more food, I came back to a napkin refolded ready for the next round.

My wife and I came here for our 4th anniversary. Prior to coming we heard nothing but good things. And overall it was a great experience, the ambiance and view are the best in Salt Lake City. And the live pianist playing a mixture of Christmas songs and hymns tied everything together perfectly. Our server was nothing but excellent. Everytime we left our seats we came back to re folded napkins, crumb free table, and refilled water. The only reason I give 4 stars is because I don't think the food was mind blowing. It was good, don't get me wrong , but not mind blowing. The stand outs were the pomegranate chicken, gouda macaroni, the salad and fruit options, the clam chowder, and best of all..... the lemon merengue desert. Those little tiny desserts alone were almost worth the $50/person! The one thing that was bad was the lemonade! It was so so so bitter! So bitter it was like they were made with grapefruits. All in all, would we come back? Yes, but probably only once every couple years. Do I suggest that you go? YES! It's definetly something everyone needs to do once .

This has been an absolute family favorite for years. We gather every April and October to enjoy the buffet on Saturday evening. It used to be extremely crowded, but fortunately has been a little later lately. They have a great spread of entrées, a carving station, soups, salads and fruit. The desserts are also amazing. Every year they change it up a little bit just to keep things interesting. With so many great options, this is going to sound odd but, they have the best rolls and honey butter that you'll ever find. Who would've thought that everybody's favorite on a wonderful buffet is a buttered roll?

When it comes to extraordinary, I would have to say, The Roof Restaurant, is the place to be for a once-in-a-while dinning experience. Over the years through various colleagues, I have only heard of great things about this establishment. We were looking ahead to a reason to visit this place (because it's $$$$), and one came up involving us celebrating our Anniversary. I got on Yelp, read the somewhat mediocre and shorthand reviews and proceeded to book a reservation all from the convenience of the Yelp App and associated link to the OpenTable online reservation portal. Located at the very top of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building (for you LDS folks), the restaurant can be accessed from the underground parking garage or via South Temple Street door entrance to the lobby. I called ahead of time to get a bit more information about parking etcetera and decided to park in the underground parking lot. If you dine in at The Roof Restaurant, you are entitled to a 3 hour free parking validation (the Host will hand you a validation pass). Once inside the lobby area, there are 4 elevators available for you to ride to the top or anywhere else's in the building for that matter. The Roof Restaurant is on the 10th Floor. The lobby of the 10th Floor has a reception area that expand the hallways from the left of the elevators to the right from one side of the building to the other. You can get a nice view of the great Salt Lake City from either side of the viewing area. At The Roof Restaurant reception area, they actually was starting to open their doors exactly at 5pm. The restaurant hours is from 5pm-9pm. The price is roughly $42/person for adults and probably less per person for younger patrons. This is a buffet style all-you-can-eat at this establishment. The food is freshly prepared what looks appears to be from quality ingredients and freshly made. I'm not really a fan of American-Style Buffet because you can definitely bulk up really fast, but this dinning experience was quite great! Lots of comfort food from Briskets to quality salmon and filet chicken mash to seafood galore. They have a great selection of desserts with my favorite being the custard fillings cremé brûlée's. I think there's something for everyone here. Quick note for everyone: This is NOT a Golden Coral, nor a Chuck O' Rama, nor a Chinese Buffet! ALSO, they do not serve any ALCOHOL (which is why I'm only giving a five star -- you gotta serve something-alcoholic to go with great dinning) Recommending this to everyone who's super hungry and ready to eat!! We will be back in a few months or so to try their monthly rotational main meal courses again!!

The Roof is amazing. I had a great time here and the service is impeccable. We went for my boyfriend's birthday and our server was amazing! Cute little lady, I wish I remembered her name. We had a table with the view blocked off by the wall, she kindly moved us to a table right next to the windows! She took pictures for us and was really nice to chat with. They had snow crab legs when we went and it was quite a treat. The meat was very fresh and tender and the warm butter to go with it... mmm. I am also a sucker for cracker and cheese plates and the one here is very satisfactory. Overall, food was 5/5, service was 5/5, and the atmosphere/ambiance was 5/5. Definitely come here for special occasions. The view is really breathtaking.

I'm rating 4 stars mainly due to my colleagues' appreciation of the food and atmosphere. I wasn't as impressed and here's why--- They offer buffet style food, but a bit higher end. Snow crab legs, cooked shrimp, grilled fish (salmon), kielbasi, steak, brisket, St. Louis ribs and many more. For $42 it was a good value. The snow crabs legs were difficult to work with and not high quality. The butter sauce was probably the type you find in movie theaters for pop corn. If they used real butter, the crab may have had some flavor. The shrimp were large and OK with cocktail sauce. My colleagues went more for the meat and said it was great. 5 stars for the desserts which included bread pudding and different cakes. The view was spectacular overlooking downtown Salt Lake City. Our waitress was very nice and attentive.There was a piano player during our visit and Happy Birthday seemed to be the most requested song. Because this is the Joseph Smith building, don't expect certain hot beverages to be offered and certainly nothing with alcohol.
